Sean Swayze’s Family Confirms He Passed Away In December
Sean Swayze, the younger brother of the late and beloved actor Patrick Swayze, has died. He was 63 years old.
Sean’s son, Jesse Swayze, confirmed the news of his death. Jesse told TMZ his father passed away on December 15, 2025.
Patrick and Sean’s cousin, Rachel Leon, also spoke about his death. She shared a tribute to Sean on Instagram, including two photos that show him wearing a Dirty Dancing-themed crawfish t-shirt.
“I’m heartbroken to share that my cousin Sean Swayze passed away today,” Rachel wrote. “This is a picture he took recently for us to promote the Dirty Dancing crawfish theme. My daughter, a marketing manager, came up with this idea to honor our late cousin, Patrick Swayze. We sent the T-shirts to Sean, who wore them proudly for us. He was always fun and full of life.”

Sean, a teamster in the entertainment industry, talked about visiting Rachel in Texas shortly before his death. Closing her tribute, Rachel shared her prayers for Sean’s children, Cassie, Kyle, and Jesse, as well as for his surviving brother, Don.
“We are praying hard for the entire family during this difficult time,” Rachel said. “Please know that we love you and are always here for you. Sean, I love you so much, and we will miss you dearly.”
What Was Sean Swayze’s Cause Of Death?
Sean Swayze’s cause of death was confirmed by PEOPLE, who obtained a copy of his death certificate.
The certificate lists an “acute upper gastrointestinal bleed” as Sean’s immediate cause of death. The certificate states “severe metabolic acidosis, esophageal varices, and alcoholic liver cirrhosis” led to the bleed.
Sean’s older brother, Patrick Swayze, died on September 14, 2009, at the age of 57. Patrick had been diagnosed with stage IV pancreatic cancer in January 2008.
