On Sunday night (April 7), country singer Morgan Wallen was arrested in Downtown Nashville on felony charges.
Wallen was a patron at Eric Church’s new bar, Chief’s, where he was on the rooftop with some friends. News Channel 5 reports that Metro Nashville Police were standing in front of the bar when a chair fell from the sixth-story rooftop.
The police went upstairs to investigate who did it, and Chief’s staff told the officers that Wallen had thrown the chair off the roof. They also reviewed a video of the incident, which showed the singer “lunging and throwing an object over the roof.”
He was arrested and subsequently charged with three felony counts of reckless endangerment and one count of misdemeanor disorderly conduct in the early hours of April 8.
People were quick to start recording him once the events occurred, and they posted those videos online. In the videos, you can see him being handcuffed and put in the back of a police car, and smiling and interacting with the cops in a friendly manner.
He was released around 3 AM after posting a $15,250 bond.
Morgan Wallen’s attorney released a statement on April 8.
Worrick Robinson, Wallen’s lawyer, released the following statement following Wallen’s arrest.
“At 10:53 p.m. Sunday evening, Morgan Wallen was arrested in downtown Nashville for reckless endangerment and disorderly conduct. He is cooperating fully with authorities.”
Wallen will be appearing in court on May 3rd, which works out for the traveling musician, seeing as he has concert dates in Nashville on May 2 and 3.
Coincidentally, Wallen’s ex, Katie “KT” Smith, became engaged to her boyfriend, Luke Scornavacco, on March 29th.
The two – who went public on social media on May 30, 2023 – were married five days later, on April 3, according to Scornavacco’s Instagram post.
Fans have speculated that Smith’s fast nuptials made Wallen so upset that he went out on April 7th to drown his sorrows, which is when he threw the chair.
According to The Daily Mail, Wallen had a “meltdown” that evening, with a source even telling the publication, “KT’s marriage to Luke last week just crushed him. Of course he knew they were engaged and eventually going to get married – but eloping just days after they got engaged?”
The source continued, “Morgan has never gotten over her even though he couldn’t stay faithful to her. And now another man is going to be raising his son. Whatever happened at that bar had to be reality hitting him in the face over losing the love of his life.”
Smith and Wallen were engaged in 2017, and she even attended the CMT Music Awards with him. Their relationship fizzled out quickly due to his alleged infidelities, but they did welcome a son, Indigo, in 2020.
Smith has broken her silence on Wallen’s arrest, following her quick engagement and marriage.
She released a statement to The Daily Beast, saying that she does not think her relationship status had anything to do with his action, despite what the public may think.
Smith said, “Although it may seem like it correlates because of the timeline, I have no evidence to believe the incident had anything to do with the recent marriage announcement. I cannot speak on Morgan’s behalf, but I do pray the very best for him. Praying that this was just a slip up and that he will return to the good path that he was on prior.”
In response to the scandal, Chiefs bar changed the marquee to read, “Our pigs fly, our chairs don’t.”
