Lainey Wilson has been in a relationship with Devlin “Duck” Hodges since 2021.

Hodges, a former NFL quarterback who played for the Pittsburgh Steelers, now works as a real estate agent. The couple has kept their relationship relatively private for a considerable time, following the example set by country legend Dolly Parton.

“Me and him are on the same page about the less we put out there, the less that we’re going to have to deal with people making anything up and saying anything,” Wilson once shared about their “sacred relationship.”

The two made their public debut on the ACM red carpet in 2023.

Wilson has described Hodges as one of her biggest supporters. She often speaks of how much he encourages her busy career. She has even said that Hodges is the first person that she plays her new songs for, including the ones about him.

“He’s heard a little bit of everything. He’s heard a lot of the love songs that I’ve written him that nobody else will hear,” Wilson shared.

Her most recent track about her boyfriend is off her brand-new album, Whirlwind, which Wilson just released.

The new song, titled “Counting Chickens,” is all about Wilson’s hopes for a future with Hodges. The lyrics describe a cozy home life, with chickens and a nice view.

“I’m already counting chickens pecking corn in our backyard /
Hangin’ up a frame with both our names cross-stitched in a heart /
Might be off my rocker dreaming ’bout a hilltop front porch view /
Baby maybe cart and horsin’ ain’t the smartest thing to do /
‘Cause they ain’t even hatched yet, but my eggs are in one basket /
And I’m lovin’ counting chickens with you.”

During a recent interview with Taste of Country, Wilson shared Hodges’ reaction to the song, saying he was “flattered” by it. She shared that when she played the song for him, he absolutely loved it. He especially enjoyed the funny ending line: “one chicken, two chickens, three chickens — oh shoot, I think that’s a duck,” which is a cute reference to his nickname.

After being asked if the two were secretly engaged, Wilson laughed and replied:

“Oh no. No, we’re not secretly engaged, but I guess I’m gonna have to propose to his a** ’cause he ain’t proposed to me.”

She then shared that they may wait a little longer to be able to “really soak it in.”

“I think it needs to be during a season of our life where we really have the time to enjoy it. Right now it would be like, ‘Oh shoot, I’m engaged. Okay, onto the next thing.'”

Whenever these two do end up getting engaged, we will be so happy for them! Until then, we can’t wait to hear what other adorable love songs Lainey Wilson has up her sleeve. Listen to “Counting Chickens” below!
