Jamey Johnson is opening up about how he proposed to his wife just two days after meeting her… and admits she originally turned him down.
On May 20, 2025, country star Jamey Johnson married his longtime partner, Brittney Eakins.
The couple ended up tying the knot at Greystone Quarry in Franklin, Tennessee, with a star-studded guest list. Some of the famous attendees included Randy Travis, Zac Brown, Ella Langley, and more. Jamey even had fellow country singers Jerrod Niemann and Lee Brice standing by his side as groomsmen.
The special day was a long time coming for the couple, who had been together for nearly six years. But if Jamey had it his way, they would have gotten married just 48 hours after meeting.
In a recent interview with Whiskey Riff, Jamey recalled proposing to Brittney just two days into knowing each other, and unsurprisingly, she said “no” at first.
For Jamey, he knew right away that she was the one, but Brittney needed a little more time.

“She said, ‘Not right now.’ I knew from the beginning I wanted to marry her. I knew what she was. She’s just a sweet, down-home, brilliant southern lawyer,” he shared.

Jamey and Brittney first met in 2019 during the inauguration of Mississippi Governor Tate Reeves. Jamey was there as a guest of the governor, while Brittney attended as a law clerk.
The “In Color” singer shared that during the event, it started pouring rain, forcing the ceremony to move indoors. At one point, Jamey was standing against a wall to let the governor and his security pass, and by chance, Brittney ended up right beside him.
That’s when he asked her to go to lunch with him the next day, and she agreed.
“The next day, we went over to Walker’s Diner with Randy Houser and the governor’s brother Todd. We had lunch, and she came and joined us for lunch,” he explained.
For Jamey, that’s all it took for him to know he wanted to spend the rest of his life with her.
He continued, “I was walking her to her car when we got done and asked, ‘Can we just go ahead and get married and have some kids, and if it works out, we’ll start dating?’ I don’t know what kind of proposal that was, but I was just letting her know that I already knew.”
Turns out, Jamey’s intuition was right all along!
