Dierks Bentley is setting the record straight about his comment that he and his wife don’t sleep in the same bed.

On Tuesday, September 2, Dierks Bentley appeared on an episode of Bobby Bones’ Bobbycast. During the interview, the topic turned to his sleep routine, especially when he’s not touring from city to city.

“When I do get off the road, it’s like the No. 1 priority,” he said, adding that he’s the “world’s most horrible sleeper.”

He then explained his unusual sleeping setup at home, revealing that he and his wife of 19 years, Cassidy, no longer share a bed.

Apparently, their sleep habits are very different, so they needed to find a way that they both could get a good night’s rest.

“We get in bed together, right? I have three pillows that have to be positioned exactly the correct way,” he explained. “I’m thinking about the process of getting to fall asleep and all of a sudden, she’ll jerk. I’m like, ‘You’ve got to be kidding me. You’re already out?’”

As a solution, Dierks says he decided to “separate church and state,” and get rid of their bed completely. He replaced it with two platform beds, two box springs, and two mattresses.

Over time, though, it’s gotten to the point where Dierks and Cassidy now sleep in entirely separate rooms.

“Lately, she’s like, because I’m just such an animal, it’s terrible. She’s like, she’s sleeping on the couch now,” he added. “She’s like, there’s an extra room we have and she just goes to sleep in there. And even last night, we’re like, we’ve got to get this back on track when I get off the road. We got to get back to the same room.”

After the podcast aired, listeners had a lot of questions and opinions, so Dierks Bentley took to social media to clarify what he really meant.

On Instagram, the “What Was I Thinkin'” singer shared a photo of their sleeping arrangement. It shows two twin beds pushed together, sharing one bed frame. Each of them has their own duvet.

“This is how we do it,” Dierks wrote in the photos caption. “I like bouncing around in my old single axle, leaf spring Chevy truck, but we prefer “independent suspension” when it comes to sleep.

He continued, “Turns out your grandparents knew what they were doing, as does most of the current world outside the US today. Just like a good mullet offers business up front, party in the back, this set up allows for both types of activities this room in the house is meant for. If you have this move in you, try it. You can thank me and the $131 dollar amazon beds later.”

As for sleeping in separate rooms, the couple is working on getting back to their normal routine. Dierks said they plan to share a bedroom full-time again by the end of the year.
