Joshua Ray Walker is asking fans for support after sharing the news that his cancer has spread to his lungs.
In an Instagram post made on September 10, Joshua Ray Walker shared an update with fans about his ongoing battle with cancer.
Walker revealed late last year that he had been diagnosed with colon cancer. In January, he underwent surgery before beginning chemotherapy.
“Hey y’all! Once again, I’ve got some good and bad news to deliver. The good news is that I’ve finished chemo treatment!” Walker wrote. “It was extremely tough, and I want to thank y’all so much for supporting me through this experience. My body handled it reasonably well, and I’ve begun to rebuild my strength and immune system!”
However, the 32-year-old singer shared that alongside some positive news, there was also a challenging update. During his post-treatment testing, doctors discovered “multiple nodes of varying sizes” in both of his lungs.
“Before I started chemo, I was told I had a 90% chance of having clear tests post treatment. So to find completely new growth in a new organ was something for which I was not prepared,” he explained. “This unfortunately means my cancer will likely be restaged to stage 4. I will get a lung biopsy, and start radiation soon.”
Walker added that, for now, he doesn’t have many more details and is waiting to meet with radiology oncologists after undergoing his biopsy.
Joshua Ray Walker Launches GoFundMe
With the news of his cancer spreading, Walker has launched a GoFundMe campaign in hopes of raising money to support his battle through the next stage of his cancer journey.
“I work harder to ensure that me and my loved ones will have basic necessities. This trait has been very useful in life, but it makes it hard to rest when life’s difficulties aren’t solely monetary,” he said. “I have a hard time asking for help, even when I believe it will be given happily. I’m launching a GoFundMe that will allow me to focus exclusively on my health and relationships during this precious time.”
The “Thank You For Listening” singer has set a goal of $300,000 for his GoFundMe campaign. On the page, he explains that the funds will be used to cover his “cost of living and out-of-pocket health expenses.”
Walker has previously shared on Instagram that, due to his health, he has put a pause on all of his scheduled shows.
