Country singer Ingrid Andress is making headlines after her “interesting” national anthem performance prior to the 2024 Home Run Derby.
Monday night (July 15), some of Major League Baseball’s finest made their way to Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas, for the annual Home Run Derby. The event serves as a precursor to Tuesday night’s MLB All-Star Game.
Prior to the derby kick-off, country singer Ingrid Andress had the honor of singing “The Star-Spangled Banner.” Andress’s rendition quickly went viral, but not for the reason an artist might hope. The singer struggled through the performance, seemingly unable to hear herself through her in-ear monitors.
The result was compared to other memorable national anthem performances from the likes of pop star Fergie and actress Roseanne Barr. Fergie’s 2018 performance ahead of the NBA All-Star Game is widely considered the worst rendition of all time and has garnered more than 27 million views on YouTube alone.

The national anthem is a notoriously hard song to sing
Viewers took to social media to share their thoughts on Andress’s performance. While many were clearly bothered by her delivery, with some even calling it “disrespectful,” some came to her defense.
“I know nothing about Ingrid Andress and this is obviously an unfortunate moment for her. But in her defense, “Star Spangled Banner” is a really difficult song to sing. Not really well composed and some great singers will struggle with it. That said, it CAN be done,” one viewer wrote on X.
Anther wrote, “Genuinely feel bad for Ingrid Andress, I hope she has a good support system right now :(.”
“I’ve seen Ingrid Andress sing twice in concert. She is a very good singer. Tonight’s Star-Spangled Banner was rough. She had a bad night for sure,” another said.

Who is Ingrid Andress?
Ingrid Andress is a country singer who has released two studio albums and has been nominated for four Grammy Awards.
Her debut album, Lady Like, was named one of Billboard’s Top 10 Best Country Albums of 2020 and became the highest-streaming country female debut album at the time of its release.
At the 2021 Grammy Awards, Andress was nominated in three categories: Best Country Album for Lady Like, Best New Artist, and Best Country Song for “More Hearts Than Mine.” The song went on to become certified double platinum.
