Carrie Underwood Has Always Been Outspoken About Her Christian Faith

Carrie Underwood is encouraging up-and-coming artists to stay true to their faith.

Season 24 of American Idol is in full swing, and it’s hard to believe the competition is already nearing its end.

Just last night, fans witnessed one of the most emotional moments yet after the show sent three hopefuls home and officially announced its Top 11 contestants.

Another memorable moment this season came during Idol’s Songs of Faith episode (March 30), where each person performed songs that reflected their personal stories.

It wasn’t just the contestants on stage, though. The judges had their own time to shine, too.

Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan opened the show by singing “Jesus Is Love” with the remaining contestants. Later in the night, Carrie Underwood gave an extremely powerful cover of “How Great Thou Art.”

This is Carrie’s second season as a judge, and many fans believe she’s played a big role in the show becoming more open about faith in recent years.

The singer’s always been honest about her strong Christian faith, and has often shared her love for Jesus through her music.

In 2021, Carrie released her first gospel album, My Savior, which went on to win the Grammy for Best Roots Gospel Album. Even when she’s away from the spotlight and back home in Tennessee, she’s been known to make surprise appearances to sing at her local church.

So, it’s safe to say that Carrie knows firsthand what it’s like to stay true to her beliefs while building a career in the entertainment industry, even when the topic can feel a bit taboo at times.

And she’s hoping to inspire young artists to do the same.

Carrie Underwood Offers Faith-Filled Advice For Young Artists

During a recent conversation with the Christian Post, the “Jesus, Take The Wheel” singer shared some thoughtful advice to anyone trying to make it as a performer.

“You don’t have to … sell your soul to make it in the entertainment industry,” Carrie reassured anyone out there trying to build their music career.

You are going to have to stand strong in your faith and remember who got you here, because it wasn’t you. Remember where your gifts come from, because it’s not from you. Everybody kind of has to make their own way, but it is possible.”

She also shared what a night like Songs of Faith means to her, especially as a broadcast that reaches millions of people.

“I mean, what’s not to love,” she says about the episode’s theme. “I respect ABC and ‘American Idol’ so much for being bold in this theme, because it’s not easy. I feel like in the world of entertainment in general … it’s not easy. But I also love that it was a gentle way. “

It’s songs of faith, and it was kind of what that means to you as hopeful,” she explained. “So it’s not like we were making everybody sing about Jesus. It’s kind of like you could take that and sing something inspirational that means something to you.”

Moments like this that bring everyone together are a big part of why fans love tuning into the singing competition. For those who are hoping to catch more performances like this, new episodes of American Idol air on Mondays at 8/7c.

Next week, the Top 11 will perform for Rock n’ Roll Hall of Fame Night.
