What Do We Know About Carrie Underwood’s sisters?

Carrie Underwood was raised on a farm in Checotah, Oklahoma, with her sisters Shanna and Stephanie. Little is known about Shanna and Stephanie who live private lives and support their baby sister as she reaches the world with her music. But, here are a few things we do know.

Shanna is 13 years older than Carrie, and Stephanie is 10 years older. Both sisters followed in their mother’s footsteps and became teachers.

According to Linkedin, Shanna (Underwood) Means was a teacher at her hometown’s Checotah Public School from 1995 to 2000 before transferring to Liberty Public School in Mounds, Oklahoma, where she is still listed as a teacher.

Stephanie (Underwood) Shelton is a teacher in Tennessee where she lives with her husband and daughter.

The two showed up to see Carrie receive her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2018, and they posed for pics with their famous sister. Few pictures exist online of the Underwood girls online, so it makes Carrie’s recent post a rare gem.

Two years later, in 2021, Underwood’s mom Carol appeared on the TODAY Show to talk about Carrie. During that visit Carol shared some pictures of her daughters when they were younger and talked about what life was like being a girl mom.

In 2009, Carrie Underwood honored her sisters and mom by participating in the TeachersCount.org campaign that pairs celebrities with their favorite teachers.

“Teaching was something that ran in my family. I have always admired my mother and sisters for making a difference in the lives of so many.” says Carrie, a graduate of Checotah High School and Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, Oklahoma.
