On Tuesday night (August 13), Richard Goodall, now known as the Singing Janitor, returned to America’s Got Talent after his Golden Buzzer-worthy audition.

During the auditions for America’s Got Talent, 55-year-old school janitor Richard Goodall performed an incredible rendition of “Don’t Stop Believin’.” The entire audience, including the judges, was stunned from the moment he began singing.

Simon Cowell, usually considered the “harsh” judge, told him, “That was special, genuinely special. I think America is going to love you.”

Fellow judges Sofia Vergara and Howie Mandell agreed, and Heidi Klum gave him the biggest honor she could by pressing the Golden Buzzer, sending him straight to the live shows.

It’s clear Cowell was right about America loving him. His audition has over 21 million views on YouTube alone, the most of any audition this year.

Finally, two months after his audition aired, Richard returned for the live show, which was already the Quarterfinals!

In his pre-performance package, Richard reflected on the Golden Buzzer moment that got him there.

He said, “I seen Heidi talking to Howie, but I had no idea what she was saying. I thought that Heidi did not like me.”

Instead, she hit her Golden Buzzer for him. That was an incredible moment that day, but the day his audition actually aired, he was focused on someone else.

Richard’s fiancée, Angie, had heart surgery the day his audition aired.

“I had a major heart attack. I almost died,” she said. “Rich supporting me helped me get through that.”

Calling back to his audition, Richard said, “She didn’t stop believing, she didn’t stop fighting….I never dreamed that all of this would happen.”

Now, she’s supporting him and even told him, “I knew all along that you could do it. You’re gonna knock this out of the ballpark, too.”

He dedicated his performance of Michael Bolton’s “How Am I Supposed To Live Without You” to his fiancée.
