They may be known for their military precision, but the 82nd Airborne Division All-American Chorus showcased their versatility and ability to entertain in a sneak peek of their America’s Got Talent audition.
Dressed in their impressive uniforms, the soldiers initially appeared ready for business as they marched onto the stage in perfect unison. However, what followed was an unexpected and captivating twist that left the judges and audience in awe.
The chorus kicked off their audition with a military-style cadence, maintaining the disciplined image they are known for. But suddenly, without warning, they transitioned into an electrifying rendition of The Temptations’ classic hit, “My Girl.” The judges, including Heidi Klum, couldn’t contain their excitement as the chorus members revealed their hidden talent, instantly winning over the crowd.
Who Are The 82nd Airborne Division All-American Chorus?
According to Staff Sgt. Marcus Gilbert, the group’s spokesperson, they proudly represent the 19,000 men and women who support and serve the Airborne Division, hailing from North Carolina.
Their website describes them as the embodiment of the paratroopers, past and present, for the 82nd Airborne Division. Comprised of talented individuals from across the division, the chorus performs traditional cadences, Americana, and popular vocal arrangements, all with the goal of upholding the airborne legacy as the face of America’s Guard of Honor.
Their mission extends beyond entertainment; they strive to tell the Army story and provide support to soldiers and their families.
During the America’s Got Talent audition, Judge Simon Cowell asked the chorus about their aspirations on the show. Staff Sgt. Gilbert confidently replied, “We’re here to win.” But winning wasn’t the only driving force for them.
They dedicated their performance to Specialist Elijah Crawford, a soldier they recently lost, and all the soldiers who have passed before him. This heartfelt dedication resonated with the crowd, who raised their hands in a heart shape as a sign of respect and support.
As the chorus sang, the judges, especially Cowell, couldn’t help but smile and be captivated by the upbeat and a cappella rendition. Even Host Terry Crews joined in the excitement, dancing along from the sidelines.
While the audience soared with enthusiasm during the chorus’ infectious performance, the clip left their fate in the competition up in the air.
