Yellowstone took a midseason break earlier this year, promising to return with the second half of Season 5 in the summer. But the cast has yet to start filming those new episodes.
Rumors started swirling in February about behind-the-scenes drama. It’s been alleged that Kevin Coster (who plays John Dutton) wanted to lessen the number of days he’d be on set.
Costner’s attorney addressed these reports, calling them “ridiculous.”

Various cast members have spoken about the rumors. Without diving into specifics, all remain hopeful they’ll be back on set in the future.
For example, Wes Bentley, who plays Jamie Dutton, told Entertainment Weekly the following in February:
“The news that’s come out recently about the show is, you know, it’s above my pay grade. Different people making decisions,” he said. “I know that they’re still working on…working things out with everyone, to make sure we shoot. And I’m confident we will. We always have before. I think it’s probably a bit of drama over nothing.”

Yellowstone fans’ concerns increased after show creator Taylor Sheridan and members of the main cast (including Costner) did not appear for a panel at PaleyFest in Los Angeles, California. Only Josh Lucas (young John Dutton), Mo Brings Blenty (Mo), Dawn Olivieri (Sarah Atwood), and Wendy Moniz (Lynelle Perry) participated in the event. Fans were upset, since it was announced Costner, Sheridan, and other stars would be at the panel. Their absence was not revealed by PaleyFest in advance.
Keith Cox, the president of development and production at Paramount, spoke about the show’s fate during the panel. He did not provide a solid update, but PEOPLE quotes him as saying:
“What I can say is our star, the face of our show and the executive producer, are very confident he’s going to continue with our show.”

Country singer Lainey Wilson joined the Yellowstone cast at the start of Season 5. She plays Abby, a musician who starts dating Ryan.
Wilson spoke with Entertainment Tonight prior to the CMT Music Awards on April 2. During her interview, Wilson shared what she knows about the second half of Season 5.
Unfortunately, it sounds like she doesn’t know much:
“I haven’t got a call yet,” she said, “but as far as I know they don’t even know when they’re going to be filming.”
She added, “I have a really good feeling that if they do finish things in a way that, you know, they’re planning, I will be back in it.“
Her co-star, Ian Bohen (who plays Ryan), was a presenter at the CMT Music Awards. He also spoke with ET and shared what he knows about Yellowstone’s future. He had a more optimistic update, saying the cast will “go back this summer.”
Stay tuned for any future updates about what’s happening with Yellowstone.
