There’s a special place called Broken Arrow Ranch in Ingram, Texas where you can purchase high-quality, free-range venison, antelope, and wild boar meat harvested from wild animals.
All of the different types of meat at the ranch are delicious but the best seller by far is the wild hogs. The hogs are trapped each year on Texas ranches and transported to a slaughterhouse before arriving at Broken Arrow Ranch to be butchered. After being processed, the meat is frozen and kept at 10°F for at least twenty days before it’s sold to a customer.
The ranch has been growing since the 80s and is now one of the nation’s largest purveyors of wild game. Selling more than 55,000 pounds of wild hog meat per year harvested from around 1,100 to 1,500 wild hogs.
Broken Arrow Ranch even has mobile processing trailers that drive out to ranches, park, and then on that spot, a hunter shoots the wild hogs, and a butcher processes it in the trailer and puts it in a freezer.
“We field-harvest animals with a mobile unit from overpopulated ranches, process them onsite under government inspection, pay the rancher for every pound and bring the meat back to our butchers,” Broken Arrow Ranch wrote on their website.
The meat goes through a special double-aging process that helps tenderize it and enhance the flavors. After that, it’s placed on the website ready to be purchased and when it’s shipped to you, it’s delivered in an insulated shipping cooler. It’s ready to be used or you can keep it frozen for up to one year. As a bonus, they give you a few recipes to try with your wild game meat. To learn more about the ranch, watch the short video below.
