Rob Reiner To Be Remembered In Special Way During Biggest Night In Hollywood

The 98th Academy Awards are less than two weeks away, and millions will be tuning in to see the red carpet and find out which stars and filmmakers will take home Oscar gold.

Will Paul Thomas Anderson’s One Battle After Another (2025) win Best Picture, in keeping with its previous wins at the Directors Guild of America and Producers Guild of America? Or will Ryan Coogler’s Sinners (2025), which bested the competition at the Actor Awards, take the top prize?

While the Oscar race is tight, the awards aren’t the only reason to tune in for the ceremony.

The Oscars celebrate the art of filmmaking, and cinema is a unique art in that it is typically marked by collaboration. These partnerships are often highlighted, with stars coming together on stage at the Academy Awards for mini-cast reunions… but what is a cast without its director?

During the ceremony, which will be held on March 15, there will be a significant reunion on stage, as it’s been announced that Billy Crystal and Meg Ryan — who memorably starred opposite one another in When Harry Met Sally… (1989) — will be participating in a tribute to late filmmaker and actor Rob Reiner.

What Is Known About The Tribute To Rob Reiner

Every year, the In Memoriam segment at the Academy Awards is an opportunity to reflect on all the talent that is no longer with us while remembering the work they left behind.

On Dec. 14, 2025, Rob Reiner, 78, was found dead with his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, 70.

The couple’s 32-year-old son, Nick Reiner, is suspected of committing their murder, but has pled “not guilty” as of Feb. 23.

For several decades, Rob Reiner was a fixture in Hollywood, starting as an actor before going on to direct many beloved films.

Some of his most celebrated works as director were made back-to-back in a successful streak, running from 1984 to 1992, including: This Is Spinal Tap (1984), The Sure Thing (1985), Stand By Me (1986), The Princess Bride (1987), When Harry Met Sally… (1989), Misery (1990), and A Few Good Men (1992).

Reiner never won an Academy Award, and was nominated only once in his storied career, receiving a 1993 nomination for Best Picture as a producer for A Few Good Men.

However, he is expected to receive some attention during the 98th Academy Awards on March 15.

Several actors from Reiner’s directorial filmography are expected to be on stage at the same time to pay tribute to him, with special attention given to Billy Crystal and Meg Ryan, Variety reports.

Crystal, who has previously hosted the Oscars on nine separate occasions, would already be a more than welcome sight at the ceremony, but this should be a particularly meaningful moment as Reiner’s legacy is remembered.

Additionally, it is believed that Barbra Streisand will be honoring Robert Redford, singing the theme to their film The Way We Were (1973).

It is worth noting that the 98th Academy Awards are being hosted by Conan O’Brien, who hosted a Christmas party that Nick Reiner reportedly attended the night before allegedly murdering his parents.

The Oscars will air on ABC at 7 p.m. on Sunday, March 15, and will be available to stream afterward on Hulu.
