Actress Mamie Laverock is showing incredible progress following a tragic accident that occurred in May.
Best known for her role as Rosaleen Sullivan in the Hallmark series “When Calls the Heart,” Mamie was first brought to the hospital by her mother on May 11 due to an undisclosed medical issue. She was later transferred to St. Paul’s Hospital in Vancouver, British Columbia, where her family initially expected her to stay for about one month.
However, on May 26, a tragic accident occurred when Mamie fell from a five-story hospital balcony, sustaining critical injuries that led to her being placed on life support.
Mamie’s mother, Nicole, later confirmed to the LA Times that her daughter’s fall was unintentional, describing the situation as a “negligence-type case.”
After months of recovery and multiple surgeries, including two 11-hour procedures, Mamie is now awake and making progress every day. She has even taken her first steps since the devastating accident.
Mamie is seen standing and taking her first steps since her life-threatening fall.
The special moment was captured in a video posted to her Facebook account, but unfortunately, it appears to have been deleted. The caption of the video read, “Thank you surgeons, thank you prayers, thank you Lord. Mamie has just taken her first steps.” As the video begins, Mamie is seen with two nurses and her family as she sits on her hospital bed, both legs in air casts.
“So what you can do, you can even push off from the bed,” one of the medical professionals tells her. Mamie then pulls herself up onto a walker that was placed in front of her, with the nurses helping her stay steady.
“It does feel really weird. It feels really weird,” she said. “It feels very wobbly.”
Mamie also mentioned that she felt like she was going to “fall backward,” but the actress managed to stay upright as she held onto the walker.
During the special moment, Mamie’s father was watching via FaceTime. As she remained standing, Mamie called back to him, “Hi Dad…look I’m standing with the walker. All by myself.”
Our thoughts and prayers are with Mamie and her family as she continues her journey to recovery.
