Mamie Laverock’s family says that they “can only hold onto the miracles of each day” as they remain hopeful for her recovery.
Mamie Laverock, known for her role as Rosaleen Sullivan in the Hallmark series When Calls The Heart, was initially brought to the hospital by her mother on May 11 due to an undisclosed medical issue. Mamie was then moved to St. Paul’s Hospital in Vancouver, British Columbia, where her family initially anticipated her staying for about one month.
However, on May 26, a tragic incident occurred. Mamie fell from a five-story hospital balcony, sustaining critical injuries that led to her being placed on life support. In the latest update on her GoFundMe page, her family revealed that her body “has been shattered.” Since the accident, Mamie has undergone several surgeries in her journey toward recovery.
“She has undergone two 11 hour surgeries with two doctors working on her, a three hour surgery and another surgery today,” her family members wrote. “We have nothing but gratitude for the doctors and nurses who have been exemplary in her care since May 26.”
Although Mamie is still in critical condition, her family noted that she is “doing well comparatively to when she arrived” and shows signs of hope by surviving the “extensive surgeries.”
“She is enduring tremendous pain and continues to not give up,” the update continued. “We can only hold onto the miracles of each day and continue to thank everyone for their prayers and marvel at the miracles of her story.”
“Our daughter loves her life and loves her family and is fighting hard everyday,” they concluded.
Although details about how Mamie’s incident occurred have not been disclosed, her mother revealed in a phone interview with the LA Times that her fall was not intentional and that the family plans to take legal action, describing the situation as a “negligence-type case.”
A representative for Providence Health Care, the operator of St. Paul’s Hospital, has confirmed that an incident did occur at the hospital but did not provide details on the situation due to patient privacy.
“In cases related to patient safety, an internal critical incident review is conducted to determine exactly what happened and to make recommendations for improved patient safety,” the spokesperson stated. “Our hearts go out to the patient, family, and all affected by this event, and we offer our best wishes for a full recovery.”
