What Kevin Costner Really Thinks Of Tim McGraw In “Yellowstone” Prequel

The series lead in this red-hot modern western has broken his silence after the news of Tim McGraw & Faith Hill were cast in the new Yellowstone prequel show.

The internet and Yellowstone fandom were ablaze when the news broke that not only Tim McGraw and Faith Hill would be starring in this new show, but legendary actor Sam Elliott was also brought in as a lead in the series.

Kevin Costner, the lead actor who plays John Dutton on Yellowstone, voiced his opinion on the casting for the new show after Tim McGraw made his announcement on social media.

McGraw is set to play the great-grandfather of John Dutton in a period piece set way back in (you guessed it) 1883 – which is the title of the show. McGraw’s wife, Faith Hill, will play the Dutton family matriarch opposite her husband.

For Sam Elliott, they’ve built a character called Shea Brennan who is billed as a “tough as nails” cowboy.

The Hollywood Reporter explains the premise of 1883 in a compelling way:

“1883 follows the Dutton family as they embark on a journey west through the Great Plains toward the last bastion of untamed America. It is a stark retelling of Western expansion, and an intense study of one family fleeing poverty to seek a better future in America’s promised land — Montana.”

But what does Kevin Costner think about Tim McGraw playing his great-grandpa in this newfangled show?

Underneath Tim McGraw’s Instagram post about his new role alongside a copy of the show’s script, Kevin Costner made a very bold, John Dutton-style statement about the casting.

“Dutton looks good on you,” he typed.
