You never know what you’ll see at a Lainey Wilson concert.
During a recent show for her Whirlwind Tour, a funny antic from one of the audience members completely caught Wilson off guard while she was on stage.
The moment was caught on video and later shared on the singer’s Instagram page. In it, she notices the crowd screaming and trying to get her to notice something.
Her eyes quickly dart to the source, and it turns out a fan near the barricades is wearing a full, lifelike duck mask.
“Is that a chicken?” Wilson asks before realizing. “Is that a duck?”
She ended up walking over for a better look. When she got closer, Wilson couldn’t help but break out into the biggest grin at the sight of the fan.
“That is hilarious,” she says when she walks back to her microphone.

For anyone wondering about the duck mask, it actually makes perfect sense. The fan knew it would grab Wilson’s attention because her fiancé, Devlin Hodges, goes by the nickname “Duck.”
In fact, he’s more commonly referred to as “Duck” than his real name at this point. Hodges, who is a former NFL player, was first given the nickname by one of his coaches a few years back.
“He said he was playing football at Samford [University], and the coach there [said], ‘You remind me of one of my favorite quarterbacks ever, and his name was Duck,” Wilson shared in a past interview with Southern Living. “And he had a really good season that year. And so the whole team started saying, “It’s Duck season; it’s Duck season!’ So that’s how he got Duck.”
Apparently, this wasn’t the first time the fan had worn the mask, either. She left a comment on Wilson’s video, thanking her for sharing the moment, and revealed that she had actually been to three other shows trying to get her attention.
And when the prank finally worked, Wilson wasn’t the only one who loved it. Fans filled the comments with how funny and creative they thought it was. Some of those messages include:
