Luke Combs’ cover of “Fast Car” has quickly become a hit with fans since its release last year, and it looks like even babies love it!
In a video that Luke Combs shared on his Instagram, you can see a baby who appears upset and is crying. But as soon as “Fast Car” starts playing, the baby magically calms down and even breaks into a huge smile. The video is captioned, “Luke Combs’ biggest fan.”
Combs couldn’t help but add his own comment to the video, saying, “Same reaction I had the first time I heard Tracy Chapman’s ‘Fast Car.'”

Tracy Chapman’s “Fast Car,” originally written and recorded in 1988, became an instant hit, reaching number 19 on Billboard’s Mainstream Rock chart in the U.S. The song ended up earning three Grammy nominations after its release, including Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance, with Chapman winning the latter category.
After years of performing the song at his concerts, Luke Combs responded to fans’ requests and recorded the song for his 2023 album Gettin’ Old. Released as a single in April 2023, Combs’ rendition became a sensation, topping the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart. Notably, it marked a historic moment as Chapman became the first Black woman to have sole songwriting credit on a number one country song.
Combs’ version of “Fast Car” didn’t stop there— it also soared to the top of the all-genre Billboard Hot 100, becoming one of the standout hits of 2023 and achieving a 2× Platinum certification from the RIAA. At the 2023 CMA Awards, Combs’ rendition won both Single and Song of the Year honors, with Chapman making history as the first Black woman to win a CMA Award. Combs and Chapman even teamed up for the first time at this year’s Grammy Awards to perform a duet version of the song.
