Several years ago, the Utah Department of Transportation and the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources teamed up to make a bridge just for animals.
Utah’s Interstate 80 sees lots of wildlife crossing and because it is such a busy traffic area, the departments knew that had to do something to safely help the animals get from one side to the other. And that’s when the Parley’s Canyon wildlife overpass was born.
It opened in 2019 and after some getting used to, animals began regularly using it to safely cross the interstate.
In a new video posted to the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources Facebook page, we can see exactly which animals use the overpass thanks to the cameras that have been set up there!
In just the first few seconds you can see how many different kinds of animals have used the overpass: moose, deer, badgers,
The post said, “It’s working! Thanks to the Utah Department of Transportation and Utah State University for monitoring the Parley’s Canyon wildlife overpass this year. As you can see, the 2nd year of this overpass has been successful at helping wildlife safely migrate over busy Interstate 80 and helping motorists be much safer as well. Please keep off of this overpass. Thanks!”
