Singer-songwriter Marirose Powell, who spent over 20 years performing with a Fleetwood Mac cover band, sang “Landslide” one last time.
Marirose Powell from Stockton, California, went viral after her daughter-in-law posted a video to her TikTok page of Powell singing the classic Stevie Nicks song “Landslide” while in hospice.
Powell, who had been diagnosed with breast cancer in 2021, initially went into remission but sadly experienced a recurrence two years later. Following her diagnosis, she was given approximately six months to live. She passed away in April, just one week after her final performance.
“She was the most loving and generous person in the whole wide world,” Powell’s daughter-in-law, Sam Xenos, told PEOPLE.
Right before her passing, two of her friends visited with their guitars and asked Powell what she wanted to sing, ultimately choosing Stevie Nicks’ “Landslide.” In the video, which has been seen by millions, Powell is lying in her bed at home, singing the song that held so much meaning for her.
“My mother-in-law performed as Stevie Nicks for decades,” Xenos wrote on top of the video. “This was her final performance before she passed the following week.”
Marirose Powell was a dedicated ER nurse who also released three albums over the course of her life. She was passionate about honoring the iconic sound of Fleetwood Mac and used music to bring people together.
“She was truly the only person I’ve ever known to leave people better than she found them,” Xenos wrote in the caption of the viral video.
Although Powell isn’t here to witness the success of the video of her final performance, Xenos told PEOPLE that everyone online loved her voice. That’s why she kept sharing videos of her mother-in-law after her passing.

“I used to tell her, ‘Post your music on TikTok.’ “ Xenos said. “And when that took off, everyone kept asking for more of her performances. So I started posting more of her stuff. And I just remember sitting there like, ‘Oh my gosh…they love you.'”
“She was truly the only person I’ve ever met that when she met you, she found you,” Xenos added. “Just knowing her left you a better person. Everybody is now seeing that through a 30-second video.”
