Luck is in the air – or maybe just on the speakers. This St. Patrick’s Day, enjoy some of the best country songs about luck. Read on for our top five!
Luke Combs – “5 Leaf Clover”
The idea for “5 Leaf Clover” came to Luke Combs on an ordinary day while he and a friend were searching for four-leaf clovers in a plot near his house. When his buddy stumbled upon a 5-leaf clover, Combs recalled:
“I thought to myself, ‘Man, how lucky do you have to be to find a 5-leaf clover?’ Didn’t think too much of it at the time, but wrote that down as a title in my phone.”
A few weeks later, the song came to life during a writing session with Jessi Alexander and Chase McGill. It was released on Combs’ 2023 album, Gettin’ Old.

Cody Johnson – “Lucky”
Cody Johnson released “Lucky” more than a decade ago on his 2014 album Cowboy Like Me. Through the song, Johnson expresses that fame and fortune could never compare to how lucky he is to have the woman he loves. The song opens:
“The smell of coffee hits me as I open up my eyes /
A southern angel wearing nothing but an apron and a smile /
I say thank you sweet lord Jesus /
Tell the truth, don’t know how I got so lucky.”

Mary Chapin Carpenter – “I Feel Lucky”
90s country star Mary Chapin Carpenter released “I Feel Lucky” in 1992 on her album, Come On, Come On. The record went on to become the most successful of her career, producing seven singles, and was certified quadruple platinum in the United States.
Carpenter co-wrote “I Feel Lucky” with Don Schlitz. It tells the story of a woman who feels that luck is on her side despite every bad omen telling her otherwise. It reached number four on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart.

Megan Moroney – “Lucky”
“Lucky” is the title track from Megan Moroney‘s debut album by the same name. Released in 2023, the project came after Moroney went mega-viral with “Tennessee Orange,” securing her a record deal.
The record was produced by Kristian Bush of Sugarland, under whom Moroney interned while in college. The catchy tune goes:
“We said, ‘Naw, never again’ /
And we said we’d be better as friends /
But come over and don’t overthink it /
Tonight, you’re lucky I’m drinkin’.”

Zach Top – “Bad Luck”
A slightly different take than the other songs on this list, Zach Top’s “Bad Luck” tells of a man who was plagued by bad luck until the right woman came around. It was released in 2022 as the third promotional single from Top’s debut album, Cold Beer & Country Music.
“Bad Luck” became the musician’s first song to chart on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart, reaching the top forty in July 2024. It was later certified gold by the RIAA.
