On Wednesday (March 11), Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson revealed on social media that they had tested positive for COVID-19, otherwise known as coronavirus.

Hanks said he and his wife were in Australia and felt “a bit tired, like we had colds, and some body aches.” Along with chills and slight fevers, the married couple of over 30 years were tested for coronavirus and “were found to be positive.”

“Well, now. What to do next?” Hanks wrote on Instagram. “The Medical Officials have protocols that must be followed. We Hanks’ will be tested, observed, and isolated for as long as public health and safety requires. Not much more to it than a one-day-at-a-time approach.”

Hanks was in Australia to film the upcoming Elvis biopic, where he will be portraying Colonel Tom Parker, Presley’s manager. According to news.com.au, the pair “contracted the illness outside Australia and travelled to Queensland with the virus.”

One of the couple’s sons, Chet Hanks, took to social media and shared a video of himself addressing his parent’s condition and explaining how they are doing with it all.

“What’s up everyone. Yeah, it’s true, my parents got coronavirus, crazy. They’re both down in Australia right now because my dad was shooting a movie down there.”

“But I just got off the phone with them and they both are fine. They’re not even that sick, they’re not worried about it, they’re not tripping, but they’re going through the necessary health precautions, obviously. But I don’t think it’s anything to be too worried about.”

Just a few hours after Chet spoke out, so did his siblings, Colin and Elizabeth Ann.

Colin, also an actor, wrote, “We are so grateful for the outpouring of support from everyone. My parents are receiving excellent care in Australia and are doing well (and in good spirits) given the circumstances.”

He added that he is “confident that they will make a full recovery.”
