Despite battling stomach cancer since the fall of 2021, Keith performed up until less than two months prior to his death.
He was determined to return to the stage after going through numerous rounds of chemotherapy, radiation, and surgeries. He did so a few times before he passed away, with his first being a surprise two-and-a-half hour performance at Hollywood Corners, his venue in Norman, Oklahoma on June 30, 2023.

He was honored with a rockin’ performance by Blake Shelton and a well-deserved speech from his friend. He then took the stage and performed his poignant song “Don’t Let The Old Man In,” a song he wrote for the Clint Eastwood film The Mule.
