Toby Keith has made a triumphant return to the stage.
Country music icon Toby Keith has officially made his return to the stage with two sold-out shows this past weekend (December 10-11) in Las Vegas. These shows mark his first full-length concerts in more than three years, due to the global pandemic followed by his own health crisis.
In June 2022, Toby Keith, then 62, went public with his stomach cancer diagnosis. The day after he shared the news, Toby canceled all of his upcoming concerts, including his highly-anticipated Country Comes To Town tour. In the months since, Toby has made occasional appearances, but never to sing more than one song.
Toby shared a series of photos to social media after the exciting weekend of Las Vegas shows, with the commentary:
“It was a triumphant return. One hell of a night in Vegas. Ready to do it all over again tonight. #TobyInVegas”
Toby Keith honored Jimmy Buffett during his sold-out Las Vegas show.
During the show at Dolby Live at Park MGM in Las Vegas, Toby Keith honored the late, great Jimmy Buffett with a cover of Jimmy’s song, “Changes in Latitude.”
Toby and Jimmy were long-time friends and duet partners. After Jimmy’s passing, Toby shared memories of him on social media, making a note of the influence that Jimmy had on so many in the industry.
Covering the fan-favorite song on such a significant night was a beautiful way for Toby to pay tribute to his late friend.
Jimmy Buffett left an immeasurable mark on country music.
Beloved country singer Jimmy Buffett passed away on September 1, 2023, after battling skin cancer that turned into lymphoma. His death sent shock waves through the country music world and in recent months, various artists have paid homage to Jimmy with covers of his music.
One of the most notable was at the 2023 CMA Awards when Alan Jackson, Kenny Chesney, Zac Brown, Mac McAnally, and Caroline Jones, who had all worked with Jimmy Buffett during their careers, teamed up for a memorable performance of “Margaritaville.”
Toby Keith’s tribute this weekend in Las Vegas will certainly be added to the list of favorite moments in memory of Jimmy Buffett.
