Tim McGraw Credits Wife Faith Hill For His Life & Career
Tim McGraw and Faith Hill have been married for more than 29 years and have built an amazing life together. As country stars, they’ve stood by each other through every high and low that comes with that, while raising a beautiful family.
It’s safe to say they are living the life they have always dreamed of. But Tim has made it clear that he gives much of the credit to Faith.
Without her, his life could have taken a very different path, and he might not even be alive today.
During an appearance on The Tim Ferriss Show, the “Something Like That” singer looked back on the early days of his career and how quickly it all could have slipped away if he hadn’t met the woman who changed everything.
“I was drinking a lot…which that didn’t stop after we got married, but she beat it out of me after a while,” Tim said.
The 58-year-old isn’t shy to admit that he didn’t handle his early success as well as he should have. With little money growing up and no real exposure to things like alcohol, fame felt like a whole new world. He compares himself to “a kid in a candy store.”
“All of a sudden it became a tool that was useful until it wasn’t,” he adds.
How Faith Hill Saved Tim McGraw’s Life
Things started to change when he met Faith. They first met in 1994 at the Country Radio Seminar, and in 1996, they got to know each other even better when she opened for him on the Spontaneous Combustion Tour. Not long after, they began dating.
“When Faith came along, I was burning it wide open when we met, and she started tapping the brakes for me,” Tim said. “Once I met her, I didn’t want to lose her.”
His wife is truly unlike anyone he’s ever met. She helped him become a better person, and Tim says she still has the same impact on him today.
“She’s magic, and not just her singing and her looks and, of course, that’s all a bonus, but as a person, she’s just magic. She just lights up a room, and she lit me up, and still does.”
“I wouldn’t be the same artist had I not met her,” he goes on to say. “I certainly wouldn’t have the career that I’ve had, had I not met her. I would have burned out really quickly, I think... If I had lost her because of not sort of bringing myself around a little bit, then I definitely would have been in a downward spiral.”
Fans who heard Tim gush about his wife on the podcast couldn’t help but share their love for the couple. Many left comments on the video clip, saying how inspiring Tim’s admiration for his wife is.
