The ‘Home Improvement’ Star Says He Looks Forward To Reading The Bible Again
“All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.”
– 2 Timothy 3:16-17
If you’re doing a chronological Bible in a year reading plan, then you’re likely approaching Deuteronomy by this point in February.
However, not everyone is reading at the same pace.
In fact, Tim Allen, star of Shifting Gears and voice of Buzz Lightyear in Toy Story, is celebrating having just finished reading through the entire Bible.
“Finished the entire Bible,” said Allen in a post on X, formerly Twitter. “It’s been a 13 month word by word page by page no skimming journey. Humbled, enlightened and amazed at what I read and what I learned.”
Now, he’s excited to start reading it all over again.
Finished the entire Bible it’s been a 13 month word by word page by page no skimming journey. Humbled, enlightened and amazed at what I read and what I learned. I will rest and meditate on so much. I will begin it again.

More On Tim Allen’s Journey Through The Bible
Tim Allen has been on a personal faith journey for many years, with the actor and comedian speaking on his beliefs in 2011 in a 20/20 interview.
There, he spoke on how he has had a “curious relationship with God,” pointing to the death of his father when Allen was only 11. Allen’s dad was killed by a drunk driver in 1964, but Allen has learned to love God, calling him “the Builder.”
“For years, I just did not like this idea of God, church,” he recalled. “[I was] still a churchgoer, but constantly a cynic.”
Back in 2024, Allen, who grew up Episcopalian, shared on X that he was reading through the Bible for the first time.
“Never took the time in all my years to … really read the Bible,” he stated. “Currently almost through the Jerusalem Bible Old Testament and almost done with the Prophets.”
The Jerusalem Bible is a translation used by many Catholics, as it notably includes the deuterocanonical books of the Old Testament, also sometimes referred to as the apocrypha.
Compared to other Catholic translations, this is one of the first in English that was translated from Hebrew and Greek texts, rather than translated from the Latin Vulgate, which was determined to be the official Latin translation of the Bible for the Catholic Church.
Of his Bible reading, Tim Allen added, “So far amazing and not at all what I was expecting.”

Never took the time in all my years to ever read and really read the Bible. Currently almost through the Jerusalem Bible Old Testament and almost done with the Prophets. Next up to New Testament. So far amazing and not at all what I was expecting.

That post is from August 20, 2024, but Allen most recently said that his Bible journey lasted 13 months, ending in February of 2026. The apparent discrepancy in the time he spent reading the Bible is rectified when we see that he read the whole Old Testament and then re-read it.
Here’s his post, featuring an image of his personal Bible, which explains how he has been tackling the Scripture:
After nearly a year I have finished entire Old Testament and the experience of re reading, dedicated focus and no drifting has made this a humbling overwhelming experience. What a treasure.

By June 3, 2025, he was finished with the Old Testament again, writing on X, “It is such a gift when I get out of the way and the words and meaning flow.”

Bible In A Year Plans
Sometimes, reading the Bible can seem like a daunting task, but there are many tools available to help make it feel more manageable.
If you’re hoping to join the likes of Tim Allen and others who are engaging with Scripture, there are many great Bible in a year plans out there, for example.
Using the YouVersion Bible app, you can select from a variety of plans and Bible translations to help keep you on track in your Bible reading. Similarly, the Catholic app Ascension has a Bible in a year plan, too.
There are also programs like BIBLEin365, which was started by Erika Kirk, who is currently the CEO of Turning Point USA.
