In August 2025, Thomas and his wife, Lauren Akins, announced they were expecting their fifth child. They already shared four daughters: Willa, Ada, Lennon, and Lillie.
The couple opted not to learn the gender of Baby #5 prior to the little one’s birth. So they got a huge surprise when an adorable baby BOY arrived in February.
Thomas and Lauren announced the birth of their son on February 27. They shared, “Oh. my. goodness. Our hearts are just in a big ole puddle with this precious baby BOY.”
They said he weighed 10 pounds at birth, despite the fact he came nearly 2 weeks early!
Lauren recalled how emotional Thomas got when he was the first to learn they had a baby boy. “He helped deliver him [and] was the first one to see and *tearfully*, mixed with a bit of shock announce to us all in the room ‘It’s a BOY,‘” she wrote.
The couple revealed they chose the name Brave Elijah for their son. They said, “Your four sisters are smitten and we are completely over the moon in love with you big Brave boy.”
Thomas Rhett Tells The Story Behind His Son’s Name
Naturally, fans wondered if there was a story behind the uncommon name Thomas Rhett and Lauren Akins picked for their baby boy. Where did they come up with the name “Brave?”
Thomas explained the origin of Brave’s name during a recent interview on Country Countdown USA. It came from the most unlikely place…a bottle of wine!
“We procrastinated on the name,” he admitted.
Then, they came across a wine that was named “Mount Brave.” Thomas recalled, “So I asked Lauren about the name Brave for a boy. We loved what that word meant for a boy or girl.“
But it took them a little longer to figure out a middle name. In fact, they didn’t chose one until after baby Brave arrived!
“…we couldn’t come up with a middle name,” Thomas confessed. “We were in the hospital, they gave us the birth certificate, and we still didn’t have a middle name. I was reading Elijah’s story in the Bible, and he led an incredible life. So we settled on Brave Elijah.”
Thomas also told Country Countdown USA host Lon Helton that he and Lauren are likely done having kids. “That’s always been Lauren’s magic number of kids,” Thomas said in regard to them now having five children.
