The Voice Drops Another Teaser For Season 29, “Battle Of The Champions”

The Voice returns in just three days, making its comeback on Monday, February 23. And this time, viewers will see the show in a whole new way.

Several changes are on the way, starting with only three coaches leading the season instead of the usual four. The artists competing for the win will be guided by coaches Adam Levine, Kelly Clarkson, and John Legend.

It’s a big deal to see these superstars back in the iconic red chairs, especially since they each have multiple wins from past seasons under their belts. That alone is sure to make this one of the most competitive seasons yet.

The NBC show has also confirmed new rules and format changes that will shake up things up.

One twist includes a “Super Steal,” which gives a coach the chance to block another coach from stealing an artist during Battle Rounds.

Fans will also see some familiar faces return. Each coach will bring back two former team members from past seasons to compete in a special sing-off during Knockout Rounds. They’ll do this for a major prize: to earn a second finalist spot in the season finale.

Lucas West’s Cover Of “Bennie And The Jets” Gets The Judges Fighting Over Him

Another thing that’s different this season is how much has been shared ahead of the premiere.

The Voice has not only released a trailer teasing what’s to come, but has also dropped two full audition clips from talented artists we will see this season.

In a clip released on February 17, the first contestant viewers met was Alexia Jayy. She impressed the coaches enough to earn a three-chair turn with her cover of “(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman” by Aretha Franklin.

Then, just two days later, another sneak peek was released featuring hopeful contestant Lucas West. He took the stage with a cover of Elton John’s “Bennie and the Jets.”

It didn’t take long for Lucas to earn a chair turn. Adam Levine was the first to hit his red button, making it clear he wanted Lucas on his team.

Later, John Legend turned his chair, too, while Kelly Clarkson chose to stay turned around and let the two compete for him.

And that’s exactly what happened. Lucas impressed them so much that Adam and John playfully fought over him.

Adam joked that he hit his button “like 20 minutes before John.” The two also went back and forth, teasing each other about winning Best New Artist at the Grammys.

It was all in good fun, though. They gave each other a big hug in the end.

The clip didn’t reveal which team Lucas ultimately chose, so fans will have to tune in to find out. But, if his unique take on the classic Elton song is any indication of what this season has in store, it’s safe to say that you won’t want to miss an episode.

The Voice: Battle of Champions will premiere on Monday, February 23, at 9/8c.
