Sundance Head, winner of The Voice in 2016, took to Instagram this week to reveal that his wife, Misty, was diagnosed with skin cancer.

In 2007, we first met Sundance Head when he appeared on the sixth season of American Idol. Thanks to his covers of “Mustang Sally” and “Nights in White Satin, ” he made it to the Top 16. The eventual winner of the season was Jordin Sparks.

Nearly ten years later, Head auditioned for The Voice with a cover of Otis Redding’s “I’ve Been Living You Too Long.” He sparked the interest of coaches Adam Levine and Blake Shelton and eventually chose the “Ole Red” singer as his coach.

Head has been consistently performing and posting his journey on social media.

Recently, Head made a social media post he didn’t think he would ever have to make.

He revealed his wife, Misty, was diagnosed with “cancer on her face.” Head shared a photo of Misty with a scar on her upper lip.

“I haven’t posted anything about this because I wasn’t sure how my wife felt about it and I didn’t want to overstep,” he started the post. “After speaking to her she told me it was ok. She is brave.”

He continued, “Misty had been told that she had cancer on her face and needed to be removed before it became and issue. She immediately scheduled the procedure and had the surgery done.”

When he posted this, she had already had the surgery and was recovering well. The doctors even told the couple of 25 years that they believed all the cancer had been removed. There will be follow-up appointments to ensure the cancer hasn’t spread.

“She is tough and fearless. I will never understand the true strength of a woman. Even facing an uncertain outcome she continued to provide and nurture our family. I would have folded like a lawn chair,” he wrote. “I’ve always said her beauty is her resilience. Such grace and resolve cannot be measured. Lord thank you for keeping her safe on earth. We need her here.”

Head issued a warning to his nearly 30,000 followers that if they find something on their bodies and have even the smallest inkling that it may need to be checked, they should do it.
