During Episode 3 of Blind Auditions for Season 26 of The Voice, the Coaches Found Themselves Battling It Out Once Again to Secure a Country Singer for Their Team.

Tate Renner, a newly graduated college student from Nashville, Tennessee, received one of the quickest chair turns from a judge that viewers have seen this season. Renner took the Voice stage to sing The Band of Heathens’ hit song “Hurricane,” adding a country twist to the rock classic.

Originally recorded by Levon Helm and released in 1981, “Hurricane” saw new life in 2011 when the Band of Heathens released their cover of the song. This version has garnered over 400 million streams and is now certified gold by the RIAA.

Tate Renner’s Raspy Country Sound Earned Him a Three-Chair Turn

Renner barely finished the first line of the song before coach Michael Bublé hit the red button to turn his chair. It didn’t take long for the other coaches to join in; Snoop Dogg was next, drawn to Renner’s raspy country sound. Eventually, Reba McEntire also turned her chair after listening a little longer to his powerful performance.

With three out of four coaches trying to convince him to join their teams, Renner faced a tough decision.

As the first chair-turn, Michael Bublé fought hard to persuade Renner, telling him he wanted to see him become a massive star. Bublé even expressed jealousy over Renner’s raspy singing voice and pointed out that Snoop Dogg and Reba already had plenty of country singers on their teams, unlike him.

On the other hand, Snoop tried to persuade Renner by saying that even though he wasn’t a country star himself, he could take him all the way to the end of the competition if Renner was willing to take that chance.

Of course, when you’re a country singer, nothing seems more appealing than joining the team of the country queen herself. Even though the other coaches made strong arguments for why he should join their teams, Renner said, “with ginger power,” he decided to join Team Reba.
