The final night of The Voice Season 29 Blind Auditions aired Monday night as coaches John Legend, Kelly Clarkson, and Adam Levine filled their teams.
The Voice: Battle of Champions is proving to be one of the most competitive seasons of the reality singing competition in its 29-season history. Each of the three returning coaches boasts an impressive winning record, so the pressure was on as they built their teams.
On Monday night (March 9), the final Blind Auditions of the season aired, leaving each coach with 10 artists each. At the end of the episode, country singer Jared Shoemaker, 32, took the stage in hopes of winning over Adam Levine, the only coach with a remaining spot on his team.
Shoemaker, a Navy veteran who served on the USS George H. W. Bush, said he started singing while enlisted to cope with the stress and long hours his job required.
“I read in a magazine that singing releases endorphins in your brain, and it makes you happy,” Shoemaker said. “I had a whole room to myself at the belly of the boat, and I just started singing. I could sing as loud as I want.”
Jared said that singing lifted his spirits. And after nine months of singing every day, he realized he “might have a voice.”
After he left the Navy, Jared formed a band and began to book gigs. They now travel the country full-time.

The Kentucky native took the stage knowing that he had one chance to win over Adam Levine. He began to sing Zach Top’s breakout hit, “I Never Lie.” Levine knew almost immediately that he wanted Shoemaker on his time and turned his red chair.

Levine expressed his delight that he completed his team with a country singer like Jared.
“I’m so happy right now,” Adam said. “The subtle simplicity of your voice is so refreshing, and the emotions and little breaks in your voice that I love so much – I mean, you just have one of those great voices.”
Kelly Clarkson admitted that she was a fan and loved the song choice, and predicted that Jared would do well in the competition.
Coach John Legend said that he would have turned his chair for Jared if a spot had been available. “Some people can hit the notes, but they don’t have the style. I really felt like you have that,” John said. “I feel like you really can sing, man. Adam’s very lucky that he got you all to himself.”
