On Tuesday, November 19, The Voice kicked off the Playoffs as the final five members of Gwen Stefani’s team competed for two spots in the Live Shows.

One memorable performance during the night came from Jake Tankersley, who sang Cody Johnson’s song “The Painter.”

Jake Tankersley, a father of four from Oklahoma, impressed all four coaches during his audition for Season 26 with a cover of Zach Bryan’s “Something in the Orange.” After earning a four-chair turn, Tankersley chose to join first-time coach Snoop Dogg’s team. But, during a dramatic Knockout round, Gwen Stefani used her save to bring him onto her team.

When it was Tankersley’s turn to fight for a spot in the Live Shows, he chose Cody Johnson’s hit love song “The Painter,” dedicating the powerful performance to his wife and kids.

Released in 2023 as the lead single from Johnson’s Leather album, the song went on to top the US Country Airplay chart. It’s an emotional tribute to Johnson’s wife, sharing all the things he loves about her.

Did Jake Tankersley Make It Through to the Live Shows?

Gwen Stefani’s team (Gabrielle Zabosky, Jan Dan, Jake Tankersley, Jose Luis, and Sydney Sterlace) received mentorship from Machine Gun Kelly (MGK) during the Playoffs.

However, after all the performances, it was Gwen who made the final decision of which two artists would move on to the Live Shows.

“For me, it was like bring out more of Jake, more of your personality,” Gwen said after Tankersley’s performance. “We talked about facial expressions, about emotion, and I could see it. I think you did a great job tonight.”

Ultimately, Jake Tankersley, along with teammates Gabrielle Zabosky and Jose Luis, did not make it through to the next round of the competition.

The other coaches, Reba McEntire, Michael Bublé, and Snoop Dogg, will have their teams compete for a spot in the Live Shows in next week’s episodes.
