Nashville-based country singer Mindy Miller earned a two-chair turn on the Season 28 premiere of The Voice with a Lainey Wilson cover.
Season 28 of The Voice is officially underway. During Monday night’s season premiere, returning coach Reba McEntire missed out on the first country singer of the season after coach Snoop Dogg used his only block.
Mindy Miller, an engaged mom of one, took the Voice stage to sing Lainey Wilson’s “Wildflowers and Wild Horses” for her Blind Audition. Miller played guitar throughout the performance and looked the part with a Lainey-inspired outfit, complete with bellbottoms.
Coach Snoop Dogg turned his red chair almost immediately, simultaneously triggering his only Block of the Blind Auditions on Reba.
“I heard something, and when I turned around, I saw something. I knew blocking Reba would be my best chance at getting to you,” Snoop told Mindy.
He added that he came into his second season of coaching knowing that he wanted to secure a country artist on his team. “Mindy was engaging. She’s a performer.”
About “Wildflowers and Wild Horses”
“Wildflowers and Wild Horses” was released by Lainey Wilson in 2023 as the third single from her second studio album, Bell Bottom Country.
“This one definitely shows that western side, it takes me back to my childhood. It takes me back to my roots. I come from a long line of hardheaded, tough people who have kind of blazed their own trails. I’m from five generations of farmers in northeast Louisiana, and I always compare farming to the music business. I mean, you get up every day and do the same thing. You have good years, you have bad years, but you just keep on blazing that trail. So I think it’s just kind of digging a little deeper into my story,” Lainey said of the song.
“Wildflowers and Wild Horses” was also featured in a Wrangler commercial that starred Lainey Wilson.
