Wayne Osmond passes away at the age of 73

The Osmond family shared the heartbreaking news that the fourth-oldest sibling, Wayne, had passed away on Wednesday, January 1, 2025. In a statement to local news station KSL TV, they announced:

“Wayne Osmond, beloved husband and father, passed away peacefully last night surrounded by his loving wife and five children. His legacy of faith, music, love, and laughter has influenced the lives of many people around the world. He would want everyone to know that the gospel of Jesus Christ is true, that families are forever, and that banana splits are the best dessert. We love him and will miss him dearly.”

Wayne was one of nine Osmond siblings who won over the hearts of Americans with their various music and television endeavors. Wayne was an original member of the Osmond Brothers, which later became known as The Osmonds with the addition of their brother Donny.

Additionally, Wayne was a producer for the popular variety show Donny & Marie.

Following Wayne’s tragic death, many of his siblings took to social media to share heartfelt tributes and remember their brother. See their posts below.

Alan Osmond

Alan Osmond, who immediately preceded Wayne in the family, penned a thorough and touching message following his younger brother’s death. It begins:

“Wayne and I have spent many years and a lot of time together in sharing our musical talents around the world, and with our family, and sharing the gospel, telling funny stories to ‘lighten one’s load’ as Wayne collects jokes. He has a ‘funny bone’ and loves to laugh and get others to do the same by sharing the fun things of life.”

Alan boasts lovingly of his brother’s many talents, including music, archery, welding, and more. Finally, he shares a message of faith and why it played an integral role in both his and Wayne’s lives.

Merrill Osmond

Merrill Osmond, the family’s middle child, remembers Wayne as a “saint.”

“When I learned that my dear brother Wayne had a massive stroke my immediate response was to fall to my knees and pray for him to receive the assurance that his mission had been accomplished, and he was successful in this endeavor in many ways.”

The tribute continues:

“I’ve never known a man that had more humility. A man with absolute[ly] no guile. An individual that was quick to forgive and had the ability to show unconditional love to everyone he ever met.”

Merrill adds that Wayne’s legacy “will go down as someone who was not only a genius in his ability to write music, but was able to capture the hearts of millions of people and bring them closer to God.”

Jay Osmond

Jay Osmond calls his brother a “true legend” and says he felt more connected to him than any of the other Osmond siblings. He writes:

“He was my roommate and my confidant over the decades. As I sat visiting with him last week at his home he talked about how sad he was that he couldn’t get up in his plane anymore and how much flying brought him peace. What gives me joy is to know that my brother “Wings” has earned his wings and I can only imagine the heights he is soaring right now.”

Donny Osmond

Donny Osmond, arguably the most well-known of the Osmond sons, expressed gratitude that he was able to be by Wayne’s side when he passed. He shares:

“Wayne brought so much light, laughter, and love to everyone who knew him, especially me. He was the ultimate optimist and was loved by everyone.”

Our thoughts and prayers are with the Osmond family at this time. Rest in peace, Wayne Osmond.
