Breezy Johnson Receives An Engagement Ring Amidst The Olympic Rings
“It’s a love story, baby, just say, ‘Yes.'”
– Taylor Swift’s “Love Story”
Sometimes, dreams do come true.
At the beginning of the week, on Feb. 8, Team USA alpine skier Breezy Johnson won her first Olympic medal, taking home gold in the Women’s Downhill.
Breezy lived up to her name, seizing the victory by 0.04 seconds, putting Emma Aicher of Germany at silver, and Italy’s Sofia Goggia at bronze.
This was the same event that saw Team USA superstar Lindsey Vonn crash and suffer a complex tibia fracture.
While that victory may have been bittersweet for Breezy, she would have a bittersweet experience in the other direction a few days later after competing in the Women’s Super G.
After a dramatic crash, Breezy would have a dream of a different sort come true…

Watch Breezy Johnson Get Proposed To At Finish Line
The Super G event in Alpine Skiing is a speed event, with the “G” being short for giant slalom.
On Thursday, Feb. 12, a total of 17 Olympians crashed out of the Women’s Super G, including Breezy Johnson who was hot off the heels of her gold medal victory in Women’s Downhill.
While she didn’t finish the event due to her crash, she still left the event a winner.
Breezy Johnson’s boyfriend, a construction worker named Connor Watkins, met with her at the finish line of the Women’s Super G event where she had just crashed. To her surprise, he then got down on one knee and proposed to her.
“You’ve worked so hard and achieved so much, and yet you still find the time to love me, to make me feel special, and, most importantly, you help me love myself,” said Connor Watkins on one knee to Breezy. “There’s only one way I want to spend the rest of my life, and that’s by your side.”
Declaring his love for her and then asking if she would marry him, Breezy, who still had her sunglasses on, could be seen being moved to tears — her head nodding affirmatively as she brought Connor up from his knees for a kiss.
Speaking with the Today Show, Breezy was asked what she felt coming down the hill after her crash to find Connor on one knee, and she replied with a smile, “Seeing him was, like, really exciting, and then, just, everything else was crazy.”
Recalling how he has been feeling as he’s watched Breezy compete, Connor said:
“It’s an incredibly surreal experience. I’ve been really nervous — every time she goes down the hill, I’m nervous, right? I wanted her to do well, but I just want her to be safe, too. She got up after the crash, which was good. That was a sigh of relief, and then my heart started racing again because I knew I was about to go and get down on a knee and propose.”
According to NPR, getting engaged at the Olympics was something she said was a lifelong dream.
