The Voice aired the first live episodes of the season on Monday night (Dec. 4), and it did not disappoint.
Since The Voice premiered a few months ago, we have watched the coaches – Niall Horan, Gwen Stefani, John Legend, and Reba McEntire – fight over artists during the Blind Auditions, then narrow down their team week by week in the Battle Round, Knockout Round, and Playoff Round.
Monday night, each coach had three artists in the first live show and every artist performed. The teams are as follows:
Team Niall – Nini Iris, Mara Justine, and Huntley
Team Gwen – BIAS, Tanner Masser, and Kara Tenae
Team Legend -AZÁN, Lila Ford, and Mac Royals
Team Reba – Ruby Leigh, Jordan Rainer, and Jacquie Roar
Former Voice coach Chance the Rapper returned to mentor the Top 12.
Even though he isn’t in a coaches’ chair this year, he jumped at the chance (get it?!) to help mentor this season!

The performances were better than ever, so it’s safe to say that Chance’s mentoring made a difference! One of the standout performances was BIAS’ take on the Johnny Cash song “God’s Gonna Cut You Down.”
Johnny Cash’s version of “God’s Gonna Cut You Down” was released posthumously.
The legendary country singer recorded the folk song in 2003, but it didn’t release it before his death later that year on the album American V: A Hundred Highways. Three years after Cash’s death, a music video was put together with help from many of the singer’s famous friends.
It’s been featured in several television shows and is the close-out song for the Australian show Wanted.
BIAS wore all black in homage to The Man In Black.
When you are performing a Johnny Cash song, it’s only right that you wear all black! Donned in some cool black duds, BIAS performed “God’s Gonna Cut You Down” and the fan response was extremely positive! Check out some of the online reactions:
