Earlier in Season 22 of The Voice, Team Blake’s Brayden Lape won his knockout with a cover of Brett Young‘s “Mercy.” He moved on to the live shows, then became a member of the Top 10, then advanced to the semi-finals as a member of the Top 8.
16-year-old Lape decided to revisit Young’s catalog during the semi-finals. He opted to cover Young’s romantic #1 single from 2017, “In Case You Didn’t Know.”
Brayden charmed the Voice coaches with his semi-finals performance of “In Case You Didn’t Know.” His coach Blake Shelton said:
“I want to speak to that particular performance, especially the end. This is playoff time. We’re going to the finale from here and dude, you stepped up. That note you hit at the end, hadn’t heard you sing like that up until this point.”
He also earned quite the compliment from Camila Cabello, who said:
“…you have such a gorgeous sounding voice and it might be more subtle, but it doesn’t make it less impactful and you have so much more room to grow and you have grown so much in this competition.“
Lots of Voice viewers loved Lape’s performance too. Some of the comments on the YouTube video of his performance were:
“Amazing voice from someone who has just turned 16 … so humble and willing to learn and growing his talent with every song. Been wonderful to watch every week. Again, very understated but impactful.”
“Simple and relaxed just like he’s giving a concert. Sometimes less is more and he knows how to connect. Way to go, Brayden.”
“This was his song. There’s something so amazing about him that nobody else on the show has…”
“This kid is absolutely amazing. Can’t wait to hear him sing his own music in the not-to-distant future!”
