Since the killing of Charlie Kirk, the 31-year-old founder of the conservative student organization Turning Point USA, many young people have been gravitating toward his organization and furthering his legacy.

A big part of Turning Point USA’s work is chapter-led events, often in the form of placing a table or booth at a public space on the chapter’s university campus. There, pocket-sized copies of the U.S. Constitution, and political pins with phrases like “Make America Healthy” or “America First” are given out for free.

Representatives of the chapter are also working the booth in hopes of answering questions about Turning Point USA’s mission, while also giving a face to conservative values at one’s school.

With being in a public setting, there is some risk… and that is something that is on the mind of many after Charlie was shot to death on September 10 while speaking at a Turning Point USA event at Utah Valley University.

Such was the case for a group of female students with Turning Point USA on November 5.

Hosting a Cocoa and Conservatives table event at University of Iowa, students who are part of the university’s Turning Point USA chapter were confronted by someone who was not pleased with their presence on campus.

According to reporting by the Iowa City Press-Citizen, a 19-year-old male named Justin Pham Calhoon was “arrested on misdemeanor charges” after allegedly flipping tables at two separate conservative student events at University of Iowa.

Justin, who goes by the name Niko Calhoon, was charged with disorderly conduct, 3rd-degree harassment, and 5th-degree criminal mischief, Iowa’s News Now, a CBS affiliate, reported, adding that he pleaded “not guilty” and was released without bond.

A no contact order was reportedly issued against Justin the next day, on November 6.

A previous incident, on October 27, compelled a warrant for arrest to be issued, with Justin having allegedly flipped a table over at a Young Americans for Freedom event that day.

Turning Point USA’s table, which was run entirely by female students, captured the November 5 incident on camera, and then uploaded the video to its Instagram account.

In the video, Justin can be heard saying “no thanks,” presumably in response to if he’d like some free hot chocolate. He can then be seen grabbing the back of the table and pulling it toward himself, sending it to the ground.

Of the incident, the University of Iowa chapter of Turning Point USA wrote on its social media, “Well it was sure a successful day of tabling despite the table flipping we had (but justice is being served).”

About Turning Point USA

Turning Point USA was founded in 2012 by Charlie Kirk when he was 18.

With over 650,000 lifetime members, across 3,500 schools and over 2,000 student groups, Turning Point USA grew from a small idea about promoting freedom through conservative values to becoming a dominant force in culture and politics.

Many at the White House, including President Donald Trump, as well as many others in elected positions throughout the country, have attributed their victories at the polls to the work of Charlie.

When Vice President JD Vance filled in as the host of The Charlie Kirk Show on September 15, just five days after Charlie was killed, he said of the late conservative, “He was a critical part of getting Donald Trump elected as president, of getting me elected as vice president … I don’t think I’m alone in saying that Charlie was the smartest political operative I ever met.”

In the wake of Charlie’s death, his widow, Erika Kirk, was unanimously chosen to be the new CEO of TPUSA.

The organization reports that over 125,000 students contacted TPUSA about getting involved with the movement after Charlie died.
