A live music performance was interrupted when a horrifying incident unfolded on stage. As a crowd gathered in Houma, Louisiana, on the evening of May 13th, little did they know that the evening’s events would take a scary turn.
Police revealed that a bass player was struck in the head by a stray bullet while performing, obviously causing concern among those in attendance.
According to authorities, around 8:30 p.m., the Houma Police Department received reports of gunshots being heard. Rushing to the scene, officers discovered spent shell casings strewn across the ground at the reported intersection. However, they were unable to locate either the shooter or any immediate victims.
Ten minutes later authorities received a call saying that an individual had suffered an injury after being struck in the head by an unidentified object.
Officers reported to the downtown park where the Josh Garrett Band, a popular jazz and blues band, had been performing and found the injured bass player with a head wound.
Upon further investigation, it was discovered that the object that had struck the man was a bullet. The police believe that this deadly projectile was a stray, falling from the sky following the earlier shooting and tragically finding its target in the bass player’s head.
Eyewitnesses present during the concert described the confusion and panic that ensued as the show abruptly came to a halt. One concertgoer shared their account on social media, recounting the announcement made about someone throwing either a bottle or a rock, unknowingly masking the true nature of the tragedy.
It was only the following morning that the truth became known—that the bullet had traveled an astonishing nine blocks to strike the bass player.
In response to the incident, the organizers of Luminate Houma, the event where the tragedy occurred, issued a statement on social media.
They expressed their concern for the injured musician and his family and said they were taking action to ensure everyone’s safety for future events. They emphasized that the incident was beyond their control and pledged to work closely with the Houma Police Department to prevent such incidents in the future.
As the community rallies around the injured musician, a GoFundMe account has been set up to help with his mounting medical expenses. He is expected to make a full recovery.
