Restaurant Touts Its American Values
Since the inauguration of President Donald Trump on January 20, the restaurant chain Steak ‘n Shake has been making moves to conform to many of the administration’s Make America Healthy Again initiatives.
Now, the restaurant is even making moves to adopt a new caliber of patriotism at each of its locations.
On October 4, Steak ‘n Shake announced on X, formerly Twitter, that “the tallest and biggest” American flags will be installed at its locations, nationwide.
“Steak n Shake proudly supports American values and traditions,” wrote the restaurant.

Patriotic Changes Made By Steak ‘N Shake
With HHS Sec. Robert F. Kennedy Jr. pushing for a healthier America under the slogan of Make America Healthy Again, Steak ‘n Shake has been keeping up with many of the Trump administration’s talking points.
The restaurant, which says it is “proud to be an American company” on its website, made waves when it announced it was going to do away with seed oils used in its fries, which had been cited by RFK Jr. as a serious health concern.
“Seed oils are one of the most unhealthy ingredients that we have in foods, and the reason they’re in the foods is because they’re health subsidized,” said RFK Jr. on Fox News ahead of the 2024 election. “They’re very very cheap, but they’re associated with all kinds of very very serious illnesses, including body-wide inflammation, which affects all of our health.”
He added, “It’s one of the worst things you can eat.”
Posting this online, RFK Jr., who endorsed Trump for president after suspending his own Independent run for the White House, created his own MAGA-inspired phrase: Make Frying Oil Tallow Again.
Just one week before Trump was sworn in, Steak ‘n Shake announced on January 16 that it was “moving forward with the use of 100% all-natural beef tallow in all its restaurants” by the end of February 2025.
Steak ‘n Shake’s decision to use beef tallow instead of seed oils has not only changed its approach to french fries, but also its onion rings, with these shifts being prominently displayed on their menus.
This shift was swiftly followed by the restaurant moving to 100% Grade A Wisconsin butter, doing away with a seed-oil based buttery blend; and the removal of high fructose corn syrup-based ketchup.
Steak ‘n Shake also very publicly addressed the Cracker Barrel logo fiasco, writing online, “Heritage is what got Cracker Barrel this far, and now the CEO wants to just scrape it all away.”

Sometimes, people want to change things just to put their own personality on things. At CB, their goal is to just delete the personality altogether. Hence, the elimination of the "old-timer" from the signage. Heritage is what got Cracker Barrel this far, and now the CEO wants to… pic.twitter.com/Aoml8ZOfuT

Unlike Cracker Barrel, Steak ‘n Shake has gone the other direction, reverting its location aesthetics to one closer to its 1934 origins:

RFK Jr. was even on Sean Hannity’s Fox News program, Hannity, in March, where the two discussed the future of health in America while eating at a Steak ‘n Shake.
