On Wednesday, November 20, Breakout Star Shaboozey Attended the CMA Awards for the Very First Time
It was a major milestone for Shaboozey, who was nominated for CMA’s New Artist of the Year and Single of the Year for his No.1 hit, “A Bar Song (Tipsy).”
Over the past several months, the viral track has made history as one of the decade’s most popular songs. It has currently been holding the top spot on the all-genre Hot 100 chart for an impressive 18 consecutive weeks.
Shaboozey also made his CMA Awards performance debut, performing both “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” and his single “Highway.”
However, it isn’t just Shaboozey’s nominations or his first performance at the CMAs that has people talking. A moment involving his name being mentioned during the live awards show has sparked plenty of conversation over the past few days.
Toward the end of the ceremony, it was announced that Cody Johnson won the award for Album of the Year for his project Leather.
While accepting the award, Johnson was joined on stage by producer Trent Willmon. After Johnson thanked everyone, Willmon took a moment to talk about Johnson’s hard work. But things took a turn when Willmon seemed to mention Shaboozey’s name, leaving many people wondering what happened.
While holding the award, Willmon told the audience, “It takes an army of people to make a great record, but I gotta tell ya, this is for this cowboy who’s been kicking shaboozey for a lot of years, y’all.”
The unexpected use of Shaboozey’s name has many people debating if it was intended as a jab at him or simply meant as a joke that didn’t quite hit the mark.
Soon after the CMA Awards, Shaboozey, whose real name is Collins Obinna Chibueze, appeared to respond to Willmon.
Taking to X, Shaboozey posted a photo of himself seemingly shrugging and smiling. In the caption, he wrote, “Ain’t nobody kicking me!”
