Randy Travis recently received a very thoughtful gift, and his reaction made it even more special.

A few days ago, Randy’s team shared a video on his Instagram showing him opening a Christmas gift from his wife, Mary.

She ended up surprising him with a custom wheelchair featuring three wooden crosses painted on the back. If you’re unfamiliar with the reference, it’s an incredibly sweet tribute to his 2002 hit “Three Wooden Crosses.”

The video begins by showing the full wheelchair, which Mary had gotten specially built and hand-painted. She helps Randy unwrap it, and the moment he notices the three wooden crosses, his face immediately lights up.

“Three Wooden Crosses” is one of the most popular songs of Randy’s long career. Originally, it was released on his 14th studio album Rise and Shine. It went on to become his 16th No. 1 hit and remains his final chart-topper.

The following year, it earned Song of the Year at the CMA Awards and also won Country Song of the Year at the 2004 Dove Awards from the Gospel Music Association.

Many people left their well-wishes for Randy and Mary in the video’s comment section. They absolutely loved Mary’s considerate gift to her husband. A few messages left by fans include:

“This is so great! ❤️”

“Oh Mary and Randy… this is one of the most beautiful and special gifts I’ve ever seen… sending you both love and best wishes for a wonderful 2026!”

“So beautiful and to the tune of my favorite Randy Travis song.”

Randy has relied on a wheelchair to get around since suffering a near-fatal stroke in 2013.

The stroke affected his ability to speak and walk. Thankfully, though, years of physical therapy have helped him make progress.

He can still only walk short distances on his own and is no longer able to sing or speak as he once did. But this hasn’t stopped Randy from continuing his legacy as a country music icon.

Over the past year, he’s released a few brand-new songs thanks to artificial intelligence (AI). Randy and his team have used the technology by taking recordings of his older vocals and blending them with another singer’s performance to recreate Randy’s voice for new music.

Not too long ago, Randy also surprised fans when he sang the final “Amen” during Carrie Underwood’s Opry 100 tribute performance of his song “Forever and Ever, Amen.”
