Lainey Wilson got humbled real fast when she wasn’t recognized at her own show.

Lainey Wilson is one of the biggest names in modern country music. In just a few years, she’s become known all over the world, with thousands of fans cheering her on. She’s also earned countless awards, including Entertainer of the Year at the CMA Awards for two consecutive years.

Of course, reaching this level of fame can easily go to someone’s head, but thankfully, Lainey has mostly been able to keep her ego in check. Still, even she has had her own slip-ups.

During a recent conversation with Kelleigh Bannen on Apple Music, the “4x4xU” singer recalled a time she got annoyed with someone who didn’t know who she was.

In her defense, though, she was at one of her own shows.

Lainey Says She Was Asked For Her Backstage Pass Just Moments Before Performing On Stage

Lainey recalls the moment, saying she was in Elizabethtown, Colorado, performing at a small rodeo festival with only a few hundred people in the crowd.

As she made her way to the stage with her guitar strapped on, she heard the music start. But right as she was about to make her grand entrance, a staff member stopped her.

“The man standing like right by the stairs for me to walk on stage goes, ‘I need to see your pass,'” she says.

At that point, Lainey was starting to get frustrated. Her set was already beginning, and she was going to be late if she had to stop to prove who she was. So, she ended up saying something she normally wouldn’t.

“‘I go, ‘I am the pass,'” laughing at herself. “And I was like, ‘Who am I?!’ Oh my gosh I am not proud of that… I said, ‘I can go get my pass, but it’s got my face on it, believe me.’ Like, I got to get up there, bro. I gotta get up there.”

It was one of those moments where Lainey reacted out of pure panic, but at the end of the day, she hasn’t forgotten where she came from.

In a recent clip from her upcoming Netflix documentary, Keepin’ Country Cool, she opened up about a time in her life when she was broke.

It was 2021, and she had just gone on her first date with her now-fiancé, Devlin “Duck” Hodges. At the time, she made it seem like she had it all together, but in reality, she barely had a cent to her name.

“I was broke,” she admits. “I was so broke when we met. And he thought I was doing a little bit better than I was. But a few weeks after we met, my sister had to Venmo me a couple hundred bucks.”

Needless to say, Lainey is grateful for everyone who has helped her get to where she is today… even if it’s come with a few awkward moments, like not being recognized at her own show.
