Scotty McCreery Received An Invitation To Become The Newest Member Of The Grand Ole Opry
On Sunday (December 3) Scotty McCreery received the invitation of a lifetime. He was asked to become the newest member of the Grand Ole Opry.
Opry member Garth Brooks was the artist who surprised McCreery with the invitation.
Brooks strolled onstage at the Opry and handed McCreery a wrapped Christmas present. Then, he told him that he couldn’t unwrap it, because McCreery’s true gift, “isn’t here yet.”
“That’s right. Tonight is merely an invitation,” Brooks said.
Catching on, McCreery stared in disbelief as Brooks continued. “On behalf of the Grand Ole Opry, this is a Christmas present to the Grand Ole Opry, we would love for Scotty McCreery to be the newest member of the Grand Ole Opry.”

Of course, McCreery accepted the invitation!
“When I got started doing this young, people said, ‘What’s your goals?’ I said, ‘I want to be a member of the Grand Ole Opry,'” he told the crowd. “I have stepped in this circle so many times over the years. It’s always been my biggest goal in country music and wondering, maybe this is the night. It didn’t even cross my mind. I wasn’t even thinking about it. I was just coming to sing some Christmas songs.“
Scotty Reacts Following His Invitation To Join The Grand Ole Opry
The following day (December 4), McCreery shared multiple posts on social media reacting to his Opry invitation. On Instagram, he wrote:
“Last night was one of the greatest nights of my life. I wish I could tell that 10 year old boy singing The Dance on the edge of his bed at 2 in the morning, that one day @garthbrooks would invite him to become a member of the Grand Ole Opry! Still doesn’t feel real. Thank you @opry, for the honor of a lifetime…Proud to be a part of the family.”

McCreery also shared a post about his Opry invitation on Facebook. He said:
“I have not stopped smiling since last night…Thank you Grand Ole Opry and Garth Brooks!!! Thank you to all who have believed in me and my music, who’ve come out to the shows, called the radio stations, streamed and bought my music….this would not have happened without all of you!!“
McCreery’s official induction into the Opry will occur at a later date. Congratulations to him!
