Todd Palin, the husband of former Alaska governor Sarah Palin, has filed for divorce after 31 years of marriage.

Palin filed the papers on Friday in Anchorage, citing an “incompatibility of temperament….such that they find it impossible to continue to live together as husband and wife.” The filing uses only the couple’s initials, with Todd listed as TMP and Sarah as SLP.

Palin served as governor of Alaska from 2006 to 2009 and rose to political fame in 2008 when she became the first Republican woman selected as a vice presidential candidate. Palin became the running mate of the late Senator John McCain in the presidential race against Barack Obama.

Todd and Sarah were high school sweethearts who married in 1988. They are the parents of five children; Track, Bristol, Willow, Piper and Trig.
