Sam Hunt was reportedly arrested on Monday, January 20, for speeding and violating an anti-DUI device.

The 40-year-old “Take Your Time” singer was arrested, taken to jail, and released the same day after being pulled over in Henderson County, Tennessee. TMZ reports that Sam Hunt was speeding, and officers allegedly found that he had violated an “interlock device, which prevents drivers from starting their vehicles unless they pass a breathalyzer test.”

Hunt’s representative reports that a speeding ticket was issued and the singer was cleared in court and will not face charges.

Sam Hunt’s arrest comes five years after he was arrested after driving on the wrong side of the road. He was taken into custody after officers found an open container in the vehicle he was driving, and his blood alcohol content registered at .173, more than twice the legal limit.

Hunt was sentenced to 11 months and 29 days in jail, with all but 48 hours of the sentence suspended. That 48 hours was to be spent at the DUI Education Center. His drivers license was also revoked, and an interlock system was installed on his vehicle. The system was to be removed after he got his license back. It’s unclear why it was still installed at the time of his most recent arrest.

Following his 2020 charges, Hunt told HITS Daily Double that he wanted to be honest about what had happened.

“People in my camp were talking about suppressing it, but why would I be afraid to talk about it? If it happens, it’s true. I was raised and taught to respect [alcohol]. Moderation is important. I’ve never wanted to glorify it. It’s a cheap trick in country music, and I’ve always wanted to avoid that,” Hunt told the outlet.

The news of Sam Hunt’s arrest comes two months after he and wife, Hannah Lee Fowler, shared that their family is growing.

In November, Sam and Hannah, who married in 2017, revealed that they are expecting their third child.

“It’s about to get real,” Hunt told Audacy’s Katie & Company. “I’m elated, can’t wait!”

The new baby is expected to arrive in May and will join big sister Lucy Louise, who will turn 3 in May, and big brother Lowry Lee, who is 2 years old.
