Rowdy Shea Impresses With Toby Keith Cover During ‘Voice’ Auditions

NBC The Voice

The season 26 Voice coaches are slowly filling their teams with exciting aspiring singers

NBC’s hit reality singing show The Voice has returned for its 26th season. Coaches Gwen Stefani, Snoop Dogg, Michael Buble, and Reba McEntire all hope to find the next rising musical star.

The second week of blind auditions is underway. Contestants must sing to the coaches’ backs in hopes that their performance will inspire one or more coaches to turn their chairs. The turn of a chair signifies a coach asking that singer to join their team.

Country singer Rowdy Shea auditions with a Toby Keith classic

Aspiring country singer Rowdy Shea showed a tender side of his voice with a cover of Toby Keith’s “You Shouldn’t Kiss Me Like This” during his blind audition.

Toby released the song in 2000 as the fourth single from his album How Do You Like Me Now?!. The single reached the number one spot on the US Hot Country Songs Chart and was certified gold by the RIAA.

Rowdy Shea is a Bowling Green, KY native whose name was inspired by Clint Eastwood’s western television series Rawhide.

Rowdy Shea chooses Gwen Stefani as his Voice coach

Gwen Stefani was immediately impressed with Rowdy Shea’s voice and turned her chair after just a few bars of his audition. The 23-year-old crooned through the remaining verses of the song and, at the last minute, was rewarded with a second chair turn from Michael Buble.

With two coaches vying to be his selection, Rowdy had a tough decision to make. The young singer revealed that he got married just one week prior and invited his wife, Jaci, on stage with him.

Ultimately, with the help of his wife, Rowdy Shea chose to join Team Gwen!
