Singer-songwriter Rory Feek has faced immense public scrutiny in recent weeks after his two oldest daughters, Heidi and Hopie, went public with allegations against him.
Rory Feek, the songwriter behind hits from Blake Shelton, Randy Travis, Kenny Chesney, and others, became a household name in 2008 when he and his second wife, Joey Martin Feek, competed on the first season of CMT’s Can You Duet. The duo ultimately placed third, earning them a massive following.
Rory began documenting his and Joey’s journey on his blog, then titled This Life I Live, including the birth of their daughter, Indiana, who was born with down syndrome. In 2014, just months after Indy’s birth, Joey was diagnosed with cervical cancer. In 2018, Joey Feek passed away at the age of 40.
Indiana was the third daughter born to Rory who has two daughters from a previous marriage. For six years after Joey’s death, Rory raised Indy alone with the help of his adult daughters and a community of friends who surrounded him after Joey died.
In July 2024, Rory remarried, a move that seemingly spurred his adult daughters to make public accusations against him and decisions he made about Indy’s care.

The very public dispute between Rory and his daughters elicited immense fan reaction after Heidi and Hopie opened up in a candid interview. In the interview, they shared that Rory no longer allowed them to communicate with their little sister and that they were worried that she wasn’t properly being looked after.

Rory responded, saying that Heidi and Hopie’s decisions had caused him to limit the time they could spend with their sister, as he no longer trusted that they had her best interest at heart.

In a new blog post shared to his renamed blog, RoryFeek.com, Rory told readers that the events of recent weeks have caused him to be “canceled.
“In the last few weeks, online I have been accused, tried and found guilty by a jury of public opinion… and canceled,” Rory wrote, adding that no news outlets reached out to him directly for his side of the story, instead choosing to republish information from the interview given by his daughters.
“And while that’s all that has been happening…one-by-one, many of the events and the writing jobs I had that were on my schedule have been canceled, along with, of course… me. Very quickly, people began to distance themselves from me. Unsure whether what they’ve heard might be true, and even if it’s not, they need to make sure they don’t personally get caught in any of the crossfire directed at me.”
Despite being “canceled,” Rory shared that his life hasn’t been affected much by it as he has chosen to focus on settling into married life with his new bride, Rebecca.
“The only thing I’m guilty of is being part of a family that isn’t perfect – much like yours I would imagine. And our family struggles aren’t something that just happened this summer. We’ve always been a work-in-progress, and I feel fairly certain we always will be,” he wrote. “There are things that my older daughters and I need to work out together. Right now we’re at an impasse on how that’s ever going to happen.”
