Ree Drummond’s Daughter, Alex, Welcomed Her First Child On December 18

Alex married her longtime love, Mauricio Scott, in 2021. After three years of marriage, the couple announced in June 2024 that they were expecting their first child. They later shared they were due to welcome a baby girl.
The couple’s daughter (and Ree’s first grandchild), Sofia Marie Scott, was born on December 18. “…our perfect girl made her arrival a couple of weeks early, just in time for Christmas! We are so in love and forever changed. Thank you Lord,” Alex and Mauricio shared on a post announcing their daughter’s birth.

Alex later shared her emotional birth story in a video on Instagram. Baby Sofia came a few weeks earlier than expected because Alex had to be induced due to elevated blood pressure.
Despite the change of plans, Alex and Mauricio were over-the-moon-excited about welcoming their baby girl. “Bringing our beautiful daughter into the world is the closest I’ll ever feel to Heaven. Praise God,” Alex said.
Alex Ended Up Back In The Hospital After Giving Birth
However, Alex’s bliss was interrupted by a terrifying health scare. As she shared in a more recent series of stories on Instagram, she was diagnosed with postpartum preeclampsia.
The Mayo Clinic defines postpartum preeclampsia as “a rare condition that occurs when you have high blood pressure and excess protein in your urine soon after childbirth.”
Alex shared she dealt with gestational hypertension (elevated blood pressure) throughout her pregnancy. That’s the reason why she had to be induced.
While everything initially seemed alright after she gave birth, “things took a turn” just three days later. As Alex explained, she noticed “some pretty severe swelling” in her legs, so she checked her blood pressure, which was 160/110.
After calling her doctor’s on-call line, Alex was advised to go back to the hospital. She was “an emotional wreck” about leaving because she didn’t want to be away from Sofia.
Once in the hospital, Alex received her postpartum preeclampsia diagnosis. She was put on a magnesium IV drip, which she said “makes you feel HORRIBLE.” She called it “one of the worst experiences ever.”
After the drip was finished, they moved Alex to another room, where she stayed for two more nights. Thankfully, Mauricio and Sofia were able to stay with her then, which helped Alex a lot.
Alex finally got released “for good” on Christmas Eve. She said she is “doing well” now, and her body has started regulating itself.
We’re so glad that Ree Drummond’s daughter, Alex, is doing better now after her health scare. We hope she enjoys all of this precious time with her beautiful baby girl!
